What a wonderful Christmas we had! My best friend/cousin had her baby boy five days before Christmas and he is such a blessing! I visited them in the hospital and then at their home before and after Christmas. Holding a baby is something I never get tired of and I am so very happy for my cousin and her husband. They have waited for a child for a long time and I can’t think of two better parents.
At our house we baked, slept, ate, played games, and watched movies for the most part during the four days I had off from work. We attended church services on Christmas Eve and the church was really beautiful with all the lights and poinsettia. I made our traditional Christmas Eve buffet of ham, mashed potatoes, rolls, fruit salad, and many finger foods to snack on.
We open our gifts on Christmas Eve and then Santa brings all the stocking stuffers to open in the morning. They were all happy with their games, toys, books, and Christmas pajamas. Our kids are all to quickly passing into adulthood or the teenage years so I find myself buying televisions, gaming systems, and cell phones instead of Barbies and Little Tykes cars this holiday season. Our son is still interested in legos and matchbox cars (thank goodness) but I know that in a couple of years he will be more into scoring his own cell phone. It’s crazy to think that next Christmas our oldest daughter will be coming home from college to celebrate the holiday with us. Time goes by so fast and some days I yearn for the time when my babies were still babies. It’s startling to think that I had V (our oldest) when I was only 3 years older than she is now.
I can say that this Christmas was one of the best I remember and I am really looking forward to the New Year with all of it’s surprises to come.
